Helpful Hands: teaching 1st aid & caring for orphans

For those of you that don't know, my mom, Arlene, and I have the privilege of- and are incredibly excited to be participating in the 2016 Ukraine Mission in June of this year, lead by Chalice.

Chalice is a Canadian Catholic Sponsorship Non-Government Organization that was founded in 1996 and has grown to aid communities around the world in 15 countries with 57 Sponsor Sites (CRA Charitable Registration Number 13759 1012 RR0001).

My mom and I were first introduced to the Chalice organization when we visited Ukraine in 2007. Upon learning of the great number of children in need of sponsorship, my mom and I were introduced to Mykhailo through Chalice. Mykhailo was only an infant when we sponsored him, and we’re proud to say that he is now a healthy and happy 9-year old who appreciates the financial support we are able to provide he and his family!! It gives us great joy to receive the regular updates from Chalice regarding Mykhailo and his family and we’re always thrilled to post the newest photo of him as well as his artwork on the fridge door!!

My mom and I will be part of an 18-person team that will visit and work in the Pochaiv (Lviv) and Ternopil Sponsor Sites in Ukraine from June 10th through th e 25th of this year.

Our mission objectives are to:

Learn about and witness the works of compassion at two Chalice Sponsor Sites in Ukraine;

Build relationships with our Ukrainian friends and colleagues;

Increase awareness about sponsorship and recruit sponsors for 50 children;

Collectively raise $20,000 to support the communities visited in Lviv and Ternopil;

Serve alongside Chalice’s partners, including training in addictions support and first aid;

Pack a suitcase with donation items that are needed at the communities to be visited (eg. First Aid items: non-prescription medicines, toothbrushes and toothpaste, sports equipment including skipping ropes, school supplies, learning toys, craft supplies, etc.)

Any support you can provide to help us meet our goals is greatly appreciated!!

In addition to the daily mission work we will be involved in overseas (which includes first-aid training, addictions education/support, contruction/renovation work in schools), the mission team is also striving to fundraise and increase sponsorships of children/adults in Ukraine. 100% of the funds raised will go towards the purchase of medical equipment and computers for schools at the two Sponsor Sites (Pochaiv and Ternopil) we will be visiting. Our collective fundraising goal is $20,000 and I have set a personal goal of $1,000.

My mom and I will each be taking along an additional suitcase with much-needed items for the people we meet in Ukraine. Should you wish to help us fill those suitcases, listed below are the items most needed within the Pochaiv and Ternopil Sponsor Site communities:

Toothbrushes and toothpaste; Skipping ropes; Learning toys; Soccer balls; Socks; Sanitary pads; Combs/brushes; Hearing Aid batteries.

Thank you, in advance, for assisting us in our mission work!

God bless!!
