Counsellor's Corner: Self Care for Caring Professionals

Counsellor's Corner: “Self Care for Caring Professionals”

Do you need to rejuvenate, recharge or keep the energy you have managed to accumulate over the summer? Summer is a time to connect with family, rejuvenate, take a holiday, sleep in, and relax. Balance tends to be easier in the summer months. As we go into the fall learning to have this balance year round is a necessity.

Self Care is vital for our well-being, and no group knows that better then clinicians in the helping profession; Counsellors, physiotherapists, massage therapist, nurses, police, doctors, etc….and students of any of the above.

Do you ever feel like you gave all your energy, care and compassion at work? Do you carry your client’s struggles with you when you leave work? Do you feel like you have nothing left to give yourself or others when the day is done? Are you sometimes run down, tired, sore, and short on sleep? The importance of caring for us in a caring profession is Essential!!

We have a limit of how much we can carry of other people’s struggles and suffering.

We are interdependent, so what you do to take care of yourself has an impact on the clients you interact with daily. When you care for yourself you are able to care for others more effectively.

Putting your own oxygen mask on first will help you, which in turn will help your clients.

Come join us for a short workshop on Self -Care for Caring Professionals and learn ways to improve your self-care, your inner strength and your awareness of the need and importance of looking after you! Becoming more self-aware helps us to know the limits of what is possible in our own lives as well as in the lives of our clients.
