ReikiWhat is Reiki?
Developed in Japan in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui, Reiki means, "spiritually-guide life force energy" and is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation, which also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands", and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what gives us life. If one's "life force energy" is low, we are more likely to get sick or feel stress. If it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthyl.
How does a Reiki treatment work?
You lay fully clothed on a massage table in a private room. The practitioner gently and non-intrusively places her hands in a sequence of positions which covers the whole body. A full treatment usually takes one hour, with each position held for several minutes. Your only job is to relax and allow your mind to release all thoughts and fears so that you can focus on the present experience.
Because Reiki is channeled from a universal life source, it will instinctively be guided to where a person needs it most, be it an emotional release, or a release from physical pain. Because the intention of Reiki is healing, the outcome is always positive. You may feel warmth where the Reiki energy is being applied, experience tingling sensations, or you may just feel relaxed and calm. Some people feel energized after a treatment.
What to expect after a treatment
Because Reiki's purpose is to remove blockages and re-balance your energy, some people may feel mild 'cleansing' effects after a Reiki treatment such as fatigue or a headache. It is a good idea to drink a couple of glasses of water before you go for a Reiki treatment, and to drink more water after to help rehydrate your body and help it rid itself of the toxins being released. Some people feel tired after a treatment, and a nap may be in order. Sleep can be a way for your body to replenish and heal itself.
Reiki is a gentle, relaxing, safe and natural way to help restore balance to your body. If you are looking for an alternative path of healing, Reiki may be just the thing for you.
